 Return to the BUILD

“You will begin the assembly process by fitting some of the lights into the front of your Eleanor Mustang that contribute to its instantly recognizable front aspect.”

The build up of our Fanhome 1:8 scale Eleanor Mustang partwork model has begun! Let’s get right into building the front end and lights.

Build

Front Section and Headlights

Step 1.1

Fit the tab of the Right Headlight (marked ‘R’) through the large right-side hole of the Front Face from the front, as shown:

Step 1.2

Secure the headlight into place from the rear of the Front Face using one (1) DS02 screw.

TIP: In case you need it, I have a full listing of the different screws and which kits they come in on The Screws page.

Since these are the first screws of the build that drive into metal, I want to take a moment to recommend you read my 3-in-One Oil page:

Step 1.3

Fit the tab of the Left Headlight (marked ‘L’) through the large left-side hole of the Front Face from the front, as shown:

Step 1.4

Secure this headlight into place from the rear of the Front Face using one (1) DS02 screw:

I took a quick picture of the progress so far. The detail and finish on this is magnificent; the headlights even have the Wagner name on the lenses:

Step 1.5

Press the pins of each Small Headlight Lens (Blue) (01E and 01G) into the matching holes in in the front of each Small Headlight (01D and 01F marked ‘2’).

The two Small Headlight Lens (Blue) are the same parts, so you can use either one here. The same goes for the Small Headlight parts:

These are just press-fit, but you can use a tiny drop of super glue on the pin if you need to:

Step 1.6

Fit the locating pin on the back of each Small Headlight assembly through the upper alignment holes at these locations (marked ‘2’ – see arrow below) on the Front Face, as shown:

Gently wiggle these until they sit flush:

Step 1.7

Secure these Small Headlight assemblies to the Front Face from behind with two (2) PS04 screws, one on each side.

The screws used here are really tiny and work better with a PH000 screwdriver. They are actually so small, they sit down into the hole, but can still be tightened OK. It is just holding plastic so it does not need to be super tight:

Step 1.8

Press the pin of each Fog Light Lens (Transparent) (01I and 01K) into the matching hole in the front of each Fog Light (01H and 01J marked ‘1’).

The two Fog Light Lenses (Transparent) are the same parts, so you can use them either way here. The same goes for the Fog Light parts:

These are just press-fit, but you can use a tiny drop of super glue on the pin if you need to:

Step 1.9

Like before, fit the locating pin on the back of each Fog Light assembly through the upper alignment holes at these locations (marked ‘1’)  on the Front Face, as shown:

Step 1.10

Secure the Fog Light assemblies to the Front Face from behind with two (2) PS04 screws, one on each side:

Thoughts

In the trial release of Eleanor, this front face was two separate pieces. Now, it is one big piece of die-cast metal and I will say the paint work on this thing is absolutely fantastic! I also love the ridiculous amount of lights on the front (and there are more to come). Keep this assembly safe until we will need it again in Kit 4.
