Top Control Arms

Step 47.1

Fit the rounded tabs of Top Control Arm 1 on either side of the rounded tabs of Control Arm Bracket 1, aligning the holes.

The two Top Control Arms in this kit are exactly the same so you can use either one here. The two Control Arm Brackets are both the same as well. However, do make sure you put the Top Control Arm onto the bracket the correct way. The small ledge around the Top Control Arm should be closer to the Control Arm Bracket, and the Top Control Arm itself should be facing away from this flat side of the Control Arm Bracket, as shown:

Press a Control Arm Shaft through the holes of the Top Control Arm 1 and Control Arm Bracket 1, linking the two parts together.

Be sure the smooth end of the Control Arm Shaft is inserted first, not the knurled end. Using a pair of pliers is very helpful here:

Step 47.2

Repeat the previous step with the other Top Control Arm, Control Arm Bracket, and Control Arm Shaft:

Step 47.3

Retrieve your Chassis assembly from the previous kit. Fit the Control Arm Bracket of one of the Control Arm assemblies we just built into this location at the front left of the Front Chassis:

Step 47.4

Secure this Control Arm Bracket to the Front Chassis with two (2) DS02 screws, as shown.

This is your friendly reminder to try using 3-in-One Oil on all screws going into metal:

Step 47.5

Fit the hole at the end of the Top Control Arm over this top post of the Left Suspension Knuckle. Then, secure this Top Control Arm to the Left Suspension Knuckle with one (1) DS04 screw.

Do not over-tighten this screw as the suspension knuckle should be able to pivot here:

Steps 47.6 – 47.7

In the same way, fit the Control Arm Bracket of the remaining Control Arm assembly into this location at the front right of the Front Chassis and secure it to the Front Chassis with two (2) DS02 screws, as shown:

Step 47.8

Fit the hole at the end of the Top Control Arm over this top post of the Right Suspension Knuckle. Then, secure this Top Control Arm to the Right Suspension Knuckle with one (1) DS04 screw as shown.

Do not over-tighten this screw either, so it can pivot:

Thoughts

I am really surprised that so many of the suspension components of our Eleanor Mustang are plastic. These models are heavy and this suspension has to support all of that weight. At least our front wheels are not flopping around anymore!
