“In this phase, you will connect the speaker and the shock absorber to the left side engine bulkhead and then install it into the engine bay.“
Left Side Engine Bulkhead
Fit the Speaker into the matching recess inside the Left Side Engine Bulkhead.
There are two notches in the recess where the wires of this Speaker should go, as shown:
Fit the Speaker Retaining Bracket over the Speaker, aligning the rounded tabs to the matching screw posts.
While there are raised circular areas around the screw holes on both sides of this Bracket, they are only angled on one side. The side with the angled circles should face towards the Speaker and will match the angle of the mounting posts, as shown. When correctly aligned, this Bracket will sit flush against both the posts and the Speaker:
Secure the Speaker Retaining Bracket into place with two (2) PS05 screws:
Fit the keyed end of the Shock Absorber Cylinder into this matching post on the underside of the Left Side Engine Bulkhead.
In the same way as on the previous side of the car, the keyed end of this Shock Absorber Cylinder is angled and not symmetrical:
At least on my model, the Cylinder seemed to fit better if the thicker ‘key’ faces away from the Bulkhead:
Secure this Cylinder into place from the top side with one (1) PS05 screw:
Retrieve your Chassis assembly from the previous kit. Fit the eyelet of the Shock Absorber Piston down through the upper gap of the left-side Top Control Arm 1, aligning the holes of both parts (arrow below). Begin to slide the smooth end of the Shock Absorber Pin through this hole in the front of the Control Arm, as circled below:
Push the Shock Absorber Pin through the holes of both parts until the Pin is seated flush on both ends, as shown.
I needed to use my duck bill pliers to fully squeeze this Pin into place:
With the Shock Absorber Piston pointing up, slide the Shock Absorber Spring down over it as shown:
Start to fit the Left Side Engine Bulkhead assembly down into the Chassis behind the Front Left Wheel.
While this Bulkhead is being fitted, there are TWO things to be aware of. First, the Shock Absorber Cylinder needs to slide down inside the Shock Absorber Spring and onto the Shock Absorber Piston, as circled below:
Second, there are two posts on the driver-side end of the Firewall that need to be seated into these matching holes of the Left Side Engine Bulkhead:
Secure the front edge of the Left Side Engine Bulkhead to the Chassis with one (1) PS05 screw:
Further secure this Bulkhead to the Chassis with two (2) DS02 screws.
This is your friendly reminder to try using 3-in-One Oil on all screws going into metal:
Finally, secure the Left Side Engine Bulkhead to the Firewall with two (2) PS08 screws.
As before, in order to install these two screws, I had to gently bend the Front Left Wheel Housing out of the way, as shown:
We have now completed our engine bay assembly. This includes our Eleanor’s main battery compartment and Speaker!
