Hood Springs and Hinges

NOTE: I slightly changed the order of these steps from the magazine to make the process easier.

Step 93.1

Retrieve your Hood from Kit 4 and place it upside down on a soft surface. Fit a Hinge Guide to this location at the left rear of the Hood and secure it into place with one (1) DS09 screw, as shown.

This is your friendly reminder to try using 3-in-One Oil on all screws going into metal:

Step 93.2

In the same way, fit the other Hinge Guide to the right rear of the Hood and secure it into place with one (1) more DS09 screw:

Step 93.3

Fit the Left Hinge to this hole at the left rear of the Hood and secure it into place with one (1) DS08 screw.

Note the orientation of this flat tab (arrow below) – this distinguishes the left and right side Hinges. The tighter these screws are, the firmer the opening/closing operation of the Hood will be:

Step 93.4

In the same way, fit the Right Hinge to this hole at the right rear of the Hood and secure it into place with one (1) DS08 screw:

Step 93.5

Fit the short post and angled post of the Left Hood Hinge Bracket into the Left Hinge and Hinge Guide, orienting them as shown:

Secure the Bracket to the Hinge and Guide with two (2) PS19 screws:

Step 93.6

Fit the ‘hook’ end of a Hinge Spring into this slot of the Left Hinge, orienting it as shown:

Slide the ‘closed’ end of this Spring over the long post of the Left Hood Hinge Bracket, as shown.

I had to use some needle nose pliers to get this Spring onto the post:

Install one (1) PS08 screw into the long post of the Hinge Bracket to keep the Spring in place:

Step 93.7

Fit the short post and angled post of the Right Hood Hinge Bracket into the Right Hinge and Hinge Guide, orienting them as shown:

Secure the Bracket to the Hinge and Guide with two (2) PS19 screws:

Step 93.8

Fit the second Hinge Spring in the same way on the right side, hooking each end as shown and securing it with one (1) PS08 screw:

Step 93.9

Retrieve your Body assembly from the previous kit. Begin to slide your Hood assembly into the matching front opening, as shown.

The Hood will need to be angled so the wider Hinge Brackets will fit down into the opening:

As the Hood is moved towards the rear, the Hinge Brackets will need to slide under the mounting posts of the Body:

When correctly fitted, take note that the Hood does not slide all the way back to completely cover the opening. It should sit like this:

Step 93.10

While holding the Hood in place, carefully turn the Body assembly upside down and place it on a soft surface.

I used some low-tack painter’s tape to keep my Hood aligned and closed during this step:

Secure the Left Hood Hinge Bracket to the Front Fender with two (2) DS01 screws:

Likewise, secure the Right Hood Hinge Bracket to the Front Fender with two (2) more DS01 screws:

While this completes the steps of this kit, we can now make sure our Hood opens and closes correctly. There is a small amount of adjustability in the DS01 screws, so you can adjust the Hood position a bit if desired:

Thoughts

I am always a bit skeptical that different painted body parts of a vehicle partwork model may not match in color, but these are perfect!
